Who We Are
Coltishall and Horstead Preschool is a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) (our Charity Number is 1164338) and as such requires a Board of Trustees (the Committee) to oversee the management and running of the Preschool.
The Committee is made up of parents and friends of the Preschool and they are involved in managing the finances of the Preschool, fundraising and setting fee levels, ensuring that appropriate policies are in place and up-to-date, making key operational decisions and the overall management of the staff. Ultimately working closely with staff to provide a safe environment with good quality learning. Committee Meetings are held once or twice a term depending on the requirements at the time and an Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held annually in the Autumn term.
All parents are automatically entitled to be Voting Members and as such may attend Committee meetings and vote on decisions raised (see constitution for full Membership details). If you are interested in joining the Committee or would like to activate your entitlement to vote, please speak to the current Chair or Preschool Manager.
What We Do
A big role of the committee is fundraising for the Preschool. Fundraising enables additional equipment and resources to be bought and subsidises group outings. We ask for support from all families to make fundraising possible. Examples of our annual fundraising events include sports day sponsors, village garage sale, raffles, spree book sales and cake sales.
A registration fee is charged once a childcare place is offered and includes a Preschool T-shirt and Jumper for the child and a ‘care’ package for the parent. This is voluntary for those families whose child only accesses the funded entitlement.
Attendance places have to be booked in advance for the whole term due to the need to ensure the correct staffing ratios are met. We are not able to offer a variable choice of days or session length that differs from week to week, although on some occasions we may be able to offer additional placements at short notice, please speak to the preschool manager for more details.
Children will be charged at the 3 year old rate from the term following their third birthday or at the point of entry if the child is 3 years at the start of their placement. Although we offer funded placements, in some circumstances we offer more sessions than the funding covers and all additional sessions will be charged at the appropriate age related rate.
Services and Capabilities
All parents/carers are welcome to come and visit our Preschool with their child at any time, although we do ask that appointments are made so we can arrange for a member of staff to be free to answer any questions that you may have. This visit will provide an opportunity for you and your child to meet the staff and other children at our Preschool as well as looking round our facilities. Once your child’s sessions and start date are confirmed, we will invite you to come along to a session to stay and play with your child. This will support a smooth transition into our Preschool and meet your child’s key person.
Our Team Of Experts
Each child within our setting is allocated a ‘Key Person’ who is responsible for settling their group of children into Preschool and supporting them throughout their time with us.
The Early Years Foundation Stage states that a Key Person:
· Meets the needs of each child in their care and responds sensitively to their feelings
· Talks to parents to make sure the child is being cared for appropriately for each family
· Records of the child’s development and progress are created by the Key Person and shared with parents/carers, the child, the key person and other professionals
In practise this means that whilst all staff will work with all of the children, your child’s Key Person will be the person more often involved with them and you. If you have anything that you would like to discuss, ask about or inform Preschool about then please approach your Key Person. Should they not be available on a specific day, then please feel free to speak to another member of staff.
